The Mission

The last 100 years have seen the creation and integration of the celebrity figure into our culture.  As the culture matures, so do the celebrities among us.  While new ones are always being created, many of the biggest celebrities in our entertainment world have passed on even while their works still surround us.  We tend to forget they have passed, and this leads to questions like, “Hey, is Jimmy Stewart still around, or what?”  An official document was needed to help keep track of who’s here and who’s not.  So as a last honor, these celebrities become Members of the Celebrity Book of the Dead.

The Members

Because most “celebrities” by definition are in the entertainment business, most of the members of The Book are known for their movies or television accomplishments.  But there are also well-known people in public life, in government, sports, and business.  While many Hollywood-types earn notation in The Book easily, it is more difficult for others.  To qualify for the Celebrity Edition of the Book of the Dead, one must be known by name or specific accomplishment to a reasonably well-informed reader.
